2020年はこれ以上悪化することはないと思われたが、無抵抗の黒人男性ジョージ・フロイドがミネアポリスの警察によって残虐に殺害され、全国で広範な抗議と暴動が発生した。

その後の数週間は、建物が板で覆われ、日々の抗議や行進、警察による外出禁止令が施行されるという、真にディストピア的な光景が西海岸にまで広がった。これらはすべて、世界的なパンデミックの背景の中で起こった。

それでも、すべての暗闇の中に光を見出すことができた。人々は困難な時期に団結し、多くのビジネスが人種的正義と平等への支持のメッセージを掲げた。

私たちはこの歴史的な瞬間を捉え、自分たちの方法で連帯を示すことに決めた。私たちはSJSU Spartan Mamboの生徒たちと共に、サンノゼの板で覆われた建物の前で、Eddie PalmieriとIsmael Quintanaの「Justicia」を踊った。この曲は数十年前に書かれたが、残念ながら歌詞は今も当時と同じくらい関連性がある。
