The 2021 World Latin Dance Cup Moves Online

2020 was a year that saw most salsa competitions cancelled due to the pandemic, and with widespread vaccination still on the horizon, the World Latin Dance Cup (WLDC) has announced that their 2021 competition will be held online.

The 2021 WLDC will be a month-long online extravaganza, taking place in the month of February. The full schedule has yet to be posted, but the organizers plan to turn the competition into an online event with interviews, workshops, showcases and more.

Competitors will compete by sending in videos via the WLDC app. To simulate a real competition environment, competitors will only have one chance to record their video– no do overs!

The competition will retain all of the divisions that it has had in previous years, but there will only be two rounds of competition to make the competition more efficient. There will also be a final dance-off which will take place live.

Competitors can sign up to compete in the 2021 website by going to the WLDC website. There is a fee to compete in each division a competitor enters, and prices go up on December 31st.

There were a few smaller online salsa competitions held in 2020, but nothing of this scale, so it will be interesting to see how the 2021 World Latin Dance Cup will make use of this new online format.
