Every Tuesday evening during Chicago’s summer months, Pier 31’s beachside deck transforms into an open-air Latin dance floor for ECI Tuesday – Mambo, Salsa, Bachata & More “Under the Stars.”
From 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. a complimentary lesson warms up newcomers with the fundamentals of salsa and mambo; afterwards DJ El Caobo and rotating guest DJs keep the music flowing until 10:00 p.m. with a mix of classic and contemporary Latin beats.
The venue—31st Street Beachside Bar & Grill at 3101 S. Lake Shore Drive—offers food, cocktails and an expansive deck that looks out over Lake Michigan, so dancers can step off the floor for sunset views or a quick bite.
Now in its 11th season (the series began in 2014), the weekly gathering attracts a friendly cross-section of Chicago’s Latin-dance community along with beachgoers and visitors.
All dates are tentatively “weather permitting,” and Pier 31 stays open only while temperatures remain pleasant enough to enjoy the lakefront.
Metered parking is available south of the restaurant; there is also a paid lot west of Lake Shore Drive and free street parking on Cottage Grove.
Light, comfortable footwear is recommended for the outdoor surface, and no partner is required—the lesson rotates partners to encourage social mixing.
Whether you come for the lesson, the lake breeze or the sunset salsa beats, Tuesday nights at Pier 31 offer a relaxed, summertime way to dance under the stars.
