Sunset Salsa™ transforms Iowa City’s Weatherdance Fountain Stage into a vibrant, open-air dance floor once a month throughout the summer and early fall.

From 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, dancers of all backgrounds gather in the Ped Mall to enjoy hours of salsa, bachata, and other Latin rhythms spun by DJ Edwin Valladares. The event is completely free, thanks to the support of the Iowa City Downtown District, and aims to promote diversity, inclusion, and community wellness through music and movement.

Whether you’re a family, a student, or a seasoned salsero, all are welcome—and no partner or experience is required. Just bring comfortable shoes and a smile.

The evening unfolds under the open sky, creating a festive, block-party atmosphere that’s become unique to Iowa City’s historic downtown. Seating lines the fountain for anyone needing a break, and nearby restaurants make it easy to grab a bite or a drink between dances.

Sunset Salsa has grown into one of Iowa City’s signature summer traditions, produced by J&E Entertainment with support from local sponsors. Come for one night or dance the whole season—celebrate Iowa City’s love of Latin dance with rhythm, community, and summer magic.
