About this event

Dance Fridays is a weekly multi-room salsa and bachata nightclub held every Friday at Space 550 in San Francisco’s Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood. Doors open at 7:45 PM, and social dancing continues until 1:30 AM.

Beginner salsa and bachata lessons start at 8 PM, with an intermediate bachata lesson in the second room. No partner or prior experience is required for the beginner lessons. Social dancing follows in separate salsa and bachata rooms, with reggaeton also in the music mix. A live salsa band plays about once a month, and performances may happen when scheduled.

The 21+ night requires a valid government-issued photo ID. Space 550 has a full bar, coat check, and vending machines. Outside food, alcohol, water, and beverage containers are not allowed.

Tickets are $15 or $20 in advance and $25 at the door; ticket purchases are card-only. Free parking is available at or around the venue, while Industrial St & Elmira St bus stop is about a three-minute walk and Oakdale Ave & Barneveld Ave bus stop is about four minutes away.

Space 550 is one the best salsa dancing venues today in San Francisco, a spiritual successor to Cafe Cocomo, which used to be one of the largest salsa venues in SF.

Dance Fridays at Space 550 features 2 rooms for dancing-- one for salsa and one for bachata. 550 also has a full bar where you can grab a drink and relax between dances.

Dance Fridays gets packed, and the event always draws a big crowd with a mix of both beginners and more advanced dancers. Other venues can be a bit hit-or-miss when it comes to good dancers, but I always have great dances when I come to Space 550. The venue is also far enough away from downtown so you don't get the random bar crowd like you see at other events. Everyone is there to dance.

Space 550 also features live music every night, which is a plus if you enjoy dancing to live music, and it helps to keep the SF salsa music scene alive.

My only complaint with this location is that the parking is a little sketchy (similar to Cocomo). Be sure not to leave any valuables in your car, or it's likely to get broken in.

All-in-all, Dance Fridays at Space 550 is a fantastic event, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to go salsa dancing on Friday nights.
