This place is always poppin’ on Wednesday nights. It’s mostly Timba but also bachata and reggaeton every once in a while. It’s contemporary Cuban music and if you want to see real Cuban style dancing, this is the place for you. Most of the crowd is under 40 which is different for SF Bay Area salsa but it has to do with the fact that the music is more up to date. The two best dancers I have ever seen in my life, I saw here. I got to dance with one too!
I will say the bathrooms are terrible for the most part and the drinks get spilled constantly on the floor and nobody cleans them up! It’s just how it is at Baobab! Don’t wear your good salsa shoes, everyone is in sneakers and wedges. You will get stepped on and step on others, just get used to apologizing and carry some bandaids because the occasional stiletto clad mini skirt wearing girl will have one too many margaritas and step on you or your lead for sure!
For a $5 cover Baobab can keep it real and I’ll keep going on Wednesdays.

If you love Cuban salsa & Timba… like I do, this is the place to be on Wednesday nights. Great dancers, great vibe & great music.
Lil Baobab is a venue I had been wanting to visit for some time. I finally did and….this place gets PACKED with Timberos and Casineros on Wednesdays. It’s one of the more pleasant surprises I’ve come across in some time. There aren’t many clubs that offer Cuban Salsa in the bay area but Lil Baobab is the place to be if that’s your preference. The dance floor opens up around 10:30 and the dancers trickle in slowly… but by 11:30 it’s “standing room only”. I had a blast and loved the opportunity to cut loose on the floor. The place is small but the crowd is there to PARTY!!!! I will be returning soon.
Visited once in June 2016. I 100% agree with Sirama’s review and the advice they listed. This place doesn’t get five stars because I prefer having more room to dance (it’s crowded).
