Hot Salsa Friday (aka HSF) is without a doubt one my favorite places to go salsa dancing in the Bay Area. Hosted on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Friday of every month, HSF is one of the biggest salsa events in the South Bay.

The event is held in the Dance Spectrum (edit: now D'Venue) in Campbell, which is a spacious dance studio so you have plenty of room to dance, with a great floor and plenty of parking. However, they aren't kidding when they say "Hot" Salsa Friday, so be sure to bring a towel or a change of clothes, because you will be sweating!

Hot Salsa Friday frequently has shows and performances from top Bay Area salsa teams as well as salsa competitions throughout the year. The dancing is great too, and you'll be able to find someone to dance with whether you're a beginner or a pro. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Update: The event has been ending early lately (midnight) due to noise complaints. They are currently in the process of getting permits to stay open later, but until they do I'm docking a star for closing too early.

HSF draws a great crowd, and has a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Since HSF is an all ages venue (a ballroom with a huge dance floor), its also one of the few places that tends to draw a younger crowd and even offers a student discount with ID. The music gets better as the night goes on, and very much caters to the mambo dancers.

HSF has been around for many years, and is run by non other than Ricardo Sanchez, organizer of the SF Salsa Congress and US Open. As a result its a venue that really draws the bay area salsa community as a whole, and is popular with everyone from first timers to long time professional dancers.

This is one of my favorite salsa venues, though I’ve never attended the classes, I heard good reviews. Parking is available even if you come late, which I always do. I personally don’t eat the food there, because it’s not super high quality, but it’s free. There’s always a good crowd consisting of people of all ages from all over the bay area. The floor can be a bit slippery for those with aged dance shoes, so a shoe brush is a good idea. There are usually cups for water in the back and iced bottled water for purchase in the front by the buffet. This event literally gets hot so dress appropriately!

– Free Parking
– Close to Freeway
– Good variety of music
– Quality, spacious dance floor
– Free buffet with admission
– All ages, diverse crowd
– Beginner and Intermediate classes
– Free water and cheap bottled water

One of the best dance venues in the bay.

Has the whole range of dancers from novice to professionals.
Dancer-friendly DJ music (short songs, great selection of songs).
Regularly features performances and competitions for entertainment.
Spacious sprung wood floor.
Attracts dancers from SF, east bay, all the way to Santa Cruz and Monterey. Many drive over an hour to attend this biweekly event.
All ages – very popular with students of nearby colleges including Stanford, Santa Clara U, SJSU.

Gets pretty hot, especially in the summer months.

Fantastic and fun place to mingle and dance with a wide variety of beginner to advanced dancers of all ages. Always has a lively crowd primarily in the 20-35 year range and great DJ. With a student ID the admittance is a mere $10.00 for both lessons and a tasty buffet dinner (usually Chinese food). The dance floor is spacious and the place has a friendly studio atmosphere. There are two fans but little ventilation so it gets quite hot indoors; bringing water and towels is a great idea. Lots of parking around the studio but park in well lit areas for some cars were broken into during the last year. Highly recommend checking this place out, just bring some Gatorade along.

The name says alot! HSF is one of the best places in the southbay to go if you really want to dance!! Great dancers and awesome music by DJ El de la Clave. Bring a towel, an extra t-shirt and don’t expect to go home early. :)

This is the best social in the South Bay. They have a huge dance floor, performances, lessons, and lot’s of top notch dancers to social dance with. Just know that it’s truly a HOT salsa Friday. Guys wear short sleeves and girls wear light dresses.

There aren’t many dance company socials in the SF Bay Area. This one is one of the few and one of the longest running. It’s a nice large dance floor and draws a good crowd more often than not. It’s where i learned how to salsa dance and the last place I danced before moving to NY. It has a nice balance of on1 and on2 dancers with the more advanced dancers to the left of the studio. The music is great and the party lasts late for all ages. Come and enjoy!

I love the ambience of the place. It has a nicely decorated hall. The Hall is very big so you get enough room to dance. The entrance fee($12/non-student,$10/student ) includes dinner which is really a good deal. You can buy Water at a dollar, not bad. Overall, A+.

This is a great salsa venue for dancers of all levels. Hot Salsa Friday has two classes before the social dancing begins: one for beginners (about an hour long) and one for intermediate dancers (also about an hour long). In addition, students get in for a discounted price (with ID) and dinner is included.. can’t really go wrong! Plus it is a great place to meet new people and brush up on your dancing skills. An added bonus is the “Jack and Jill” competition– when this takes place it makes for great entertainment (if you enjoy watching) and an even more rewarding experience if you plan to compete!
