Overview:

Salsa By The Sea is a free, weekly outdoor salsa dancing event held next to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, by the Ideal Bar & Grill. The event runs all year long (except when it rains) and the start time depends on the season (later in the summer, earlier in the winter). Some weekends are “Bachata by the Sea”, with more bachata music played than salsa.

Salsa dancing on the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, right next to the beach... it doesn't get any better than that.

Salsa by the Sea is one of my favorite events to go to during the summer months, and we usually make a day out of it, hanging out on the beach working on our tans during the day, then dancing on the Boardwalk during the afternoon.

Parking can be a little tough to find, and dancing on the wooden planks of the Boardwalk can be a little tough, but this one of my favorite outdoor salsa events, and well worth the drive over the Santa Cruz mountains.

I absolutely love this event. Free salsa music and dancing right next to the beach! Santa Cruz is a college town so you get a great varied crowed and this event is popular with both beginners and more experienced dancers. Since the music is generally from 4-7 I usually like to just hit up the beach in the morning and hang out until the dancing starts.

Also, as I learned this the hard way I'll just say that the deck is old and prone to splinters, so don't dance barefoot. Ladies don't bring your nice heels either since those could easily get caught in the cracks - tennis shoes or slippers are your best bet here.

This is an event that I cherish! I tell people all over the USA about this wonderful community dance jam. Donny, the man who started this event and recently passed on , had a great vision to bring the latin dance community together to celebrate
dancing by the beech into the sunset.(RIP Donny….you sweetheart of a dude) Pura Vida!!! see all ya all on da dance flor!

Great way to practice or learn some sweet salsa moves! Under the gorgeous Santa Cruz sun and picturesque beachfront view, SBTS is the best free thing for anyone who is up for a good time.
