This is one of these places that resembles a tadpole pool– where fevered spawning occurs and a whole bunch of eggs are laid and the pool becomes teeming with shimmering underlings. Some of these small fry eventually develop legs and hop away and fend for themselves– venturing into the unknown and finding their own prey to eat. Some of these tadpoles develop into adults– get netted and captured and spend their entire existence in a cooped-up, safe yet comfortable terrarium. But is this really a healthy thing? Hmmm… you might have to ponder about for a while before you understand what the deeper meaning really is.
Regardless, try Ruth and Juan out and you’ll find out for yourself…
Overall, a nicely structured program that grows the dancer from raw newbie to a competent dancer. They provide class levels listed as: 1.0 newbie, 1.5 pre-intermediate, 1.75 bridge, 2.0 intermediate and 2.5 advance. Juan and Ruth will provide a solid foundation in salsa on 1.

I love salsa con juan. Great teacher, easy to follow. The class is fun and you progress quickly. I am a terrible dancer (in general) and they can even make me look competent

Five stars on Google reviews?!?
I’m always in doubt for any business that have five star rating. Is it a inside job or often asking Google to take them down if it’s bad.
Well, here is my honest and genuine opinion, the location of this place is weird and when you get down there its really cramped and stuffy in there with no air conditioning what so ever so be prepared. The area is on a bad side of Oakland so do not leave any belongings inside of your car since my friend got his car broke into the same night that I went for Salsa lesson. Lead teacher looks tired but he is really trying to be charming with boring jokes in class. My whole experience was just okay, not into the sales pitches from the front desk lady trying to push hard. Class were teach by an older girl with a guy name Juan, i’d say in her mid seventies. She was nice but you can tell that she didn’t and really trying to follow for her age. She seemed more irritated at times if anything. The instructors doesn’t really correct students if they do the moves incorrectly. I figured that students are just being taught the basic moves in class, then the perfection would come later and you will continue to spend your $$$ in privates.
So why should I go to a boring class if I can just look up salsa w juan video on Youtube?!?

I learned a lot from Juan. Classes are really fun and I found it easy to learn. I started out as a beginner in salsa, knowing nothing. It was great that I didnt feel imtimidated in class and they really make you feel comfortable.
The dance studio is really nice and there are lots of dancers around all the time. Great environment overall.

When I first moved out to the bay, I wanted to continue with my salsa lessons. I came across Salsa with Juan and I figure I give it a try. I’m very happy I made that choice, Juan was able to teach me a solid foundation in Salsa, from techniques to posture, to leading and style. He also kept his classes pretty fun and has great socials from time to time. The thing I like most is he was able to take complex moves and make them simple. I highly recommend Salsa with Juan classes, not only for learning salsa but also being in a great environment to grow and develop.
