To begin, the regular band here, VibraSON, is a great band that has been playing old style salsa (my favorite) for several years in the Bay Area. Their music is very danceable. For those wary of live music – Their song length is totally dance friendly.
The dance crowd here is very good. Many Bay Area regulars and everyone, as is usual in San Francisco, is very friendly. All levels of expertise represented.
Finally, the venue. Bar Fluxus is a great bar. Well mixed alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails. This is a quality cocktail bar. It is pretty good as a dance venue. I like the high ceilings. Doesn’t get too hot. The floor is OK for dancing. It’s not the biggest venue in town but works well with the number of people dancing.
I was always wary, in the past, of driving to the Union Square area and dealing with traffic and parking. Not to worry. There is no traffic in that area after 9pm on a Tuesday. And, there is a public parking garage nearby with reasonable rates for a few hours in the evening.
After Cocomo’s closed I rarely get to hear live salsa music. I don’t really like the weekend venues. Latin Vibe Tuesdays is a great opportunity to add dancing to live music to your weekday dance schedule.
the live band is superb, and thought I don’t drink alcohol to me everybody looks pleased with the bar!
Best place for salsa in SF. The space gets crowded but it’s such a fun vibe. Staff is INCREDIBLE. The band is amazing and the drinks are awesome.
10 out of 10 for sure!!!
Absolutely the best night of dance in the bay area. I have loved this band since they first emerged a few years back and could dance to them until the end of time. This is simply the perfect venue. I can’t say enough.
We love this place for many reasons. The owner is super friendly and down to earth. The bar tenders are fun, fast, and creative. The music is great. Enough space to dance all night with great local dancers. Wish I could go every single week.
Amazing band, great crowd. If you haven’t been you are definitely missing out on some great salsa and mambo music.
When it comes to LIVE Salsa music in San Francisco the weekends a quite active. But … what about mid-week? Where’s the action for those who crave live music over a Disc Jockey? The folks at Bar Fluxus in downtown SF have come up with a suitable response to all you Latin music lovers who long for the vibrant sounds of a small but very tightly fused ensemble.
Officially known as Latin Vibe Tuesday at Bar Fluxus, management decided to bring on VibraSON, a seven piece ensemble featuring some of the most talented musicians the bay area has to offer. Their sound is very unique because it’s not your “tipical” Salsa band. For starters, there are no horns in this group, and THAT’s precisely what stands VibraSON apart from any other Salsa band in Northern California.
Their energy comes from a vibraphone, keyboard, timbales, conga, bongo, bass, and vocalist. This seven man group has revived the “Old New York Style” of 1960’s Salsa, when the vibraphone was a key instrument in delivering the swinging sounds that New York Mambo dancers craved. Their focus on playing tunes that are not only dance favorites but acoustically delightful to the ear has place them in high demand recently. VibraSON has been playing at Bar Fluxus since late February and is drawing quite a following every Tuesday night.
Their loyal dance base has caught on quickly to their current whereabouts and show up in numbers to support them on the dance floor. Additionally, the word has spread among Non-Dancers that there’s “an interesting band” performing in SF on Tuesdays. Needless to say, Bar Fluxus gets its fair share of the midweek crowd to show up and enjoy the happenings.
Bar Fluxus, a cozy place to simply hangout during the week, comes alive with some of the best dancers in the area on Tuesdays. Not only do they enjoy themselves, they also put on a great show for the novice viewer. The ambiance is mellow and simply a great place to get away from it all. The bar drinks are reasonably priced and the $10 cover charge is quite reasonable. Personally, I really like this venue and recommend it highly to anyone looking for a place to dance to live Salsa during the week. My only concern is the dance floor…. it gets rather crowded at times due to space limitations. Simply stated, it’s not perfect but it will definitely fill my needs.
