About Laura Altman

Laura Altman, also known as Laura Castro Altman, is a Colombian-born dance instructor and director based in Miami. She teaches through International Dance Studio with Isaac Altman, and her work sits at the intersection of salsa, ballroom, Latin dance and youth dance development.

Laura came to the United States after teaching ballet and jazz in Colombia from her teenage years. At International Dance Studio, she became Isaac Altman’s dance partner, and the two went on to win the IDO World Salsa Championship in 2000. Their partnership helped anchor the studio’s reputation as a Miami home for salsa, ballroom and competitive partner dance.

Together, Laura and Isaac also helped build the World Salsa Federation, a competition organization tied to the early development of organized world salsa championships. Their work extended into youth DanceSport and salsa programming, including efforts connected to the AAU Junior Olympic Games.

Today, Laura continues to teach through International Dance Studio, where the public program includes salsa, bachata, ballroom, Latin, swing, tango and related partner dances. Her work is especially useful for dancers interested in Miami salsa history, structured studio training and the bridge between social Latin dance and DanceSport.
