About Amneris Martinez

Amneris Martinez is a salsa dancer, choreographer and instructor from Ponce, Puerto Rico, based in New York City. She is the founder of Borinsura Dance Movement and the Women’s Pride NYC dance event.

Amneris began studying dance at Julie Mayoral’s academy, training in ballet, jazz and contemporary dance alongside salsa and other styles. Her career included a ten-year dance partnership with Juan Matos and performances with Adolfo Indacochea.

Her teaching combines mambo with body movement and an emphasis on musical timing. Through Borinsura, she offers New York classes and online training that work on balance, weight transfer and coordination. Women’s Pride extends her work as an educator into an event centered on women in dance.

Her movement vocabulary brings together Puerto Rican salsa, New York mambo and Afro-Cuban influences. Students encounter that mix through both individual movement work and partner choreography, rather than studying styling as a separate decorative element.
