Cafe Cocomo Not Closing… Yet

Earlier this month we reported that Cafe Cocomo is closing in June. However, this no longer appears to be the case. The management of Cocomo has negotiated with the new landlords, and Cafe Cocomo will remain open until at least July 25th.

The exact final date for Cocomo has not been announced yet, but the venue is still expected to close within the next month or two because the property has already been sold, and will be demolished soon to make way for new condo units.

A number of salsa promoters have already jumped the gun, and there are several new salsa events coming up this month in SF including Salsa Buena Thursdays and Tumbao Fridays.

We are still planning on releasing our retrospective piece on the history of Cafe Cocomo, one of the Bay Area’s most historic salsa venues, sometime in mid-July. If you have any memories or photos of Cocomo you would like to share, please send them to us at contact@salsabythebay.com.
