Jorge Martinez is a salsa dancer, instructor and choreographer based in Oaxaca, Mexico. He is the director of Salsa Na’Ma Dance Academy, one of the best-known salsa schools in Oaxaca, and he is also one of the organizers behind the Oaxaca Salsa & Bachata Paramaount Cup.
Jorge is best known internationally for his partnership with Maria Catalan. Together they won the 2016 World Latin Dance Cup Salsa On2 division and have won multiple international titles since. Their dancing is known for fast footwork, intricate partnerwork and a clean competitive style that still keeps the sabor of Oaxaca salsa.
Through his dance team, Salsa Na’Ma, Jorge has helped train dancers and teams while representing Mexico at events in the United States, Canada, Guatemala, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Italy and other countries. His work sits at the intersection of school director, competitor, performer and event organizer.
As a teacher, Jorge focuses on salsa footwork, partnerwork, styling, turn patterns and musicality, with a strong On2/mambo influence. As an experienced salsa competitor with multiple world titles, Jorge has a strong understanding of what it takes to help students become high-level salsa dancers.
