Diego is originally from Peru, grew up with salsa and bachata as part of his cultural identity. He began his formal dance journey in Austin, Texas at Inspired Movement, where he studied salsa, bachata, zouk, and kizomba. There, he performed with multiple teams, completed extensive instructor training, and later joined the faculty as a salsa and bachata instructor.
In New York City, Diego deepened his training in both salsa and bachata while immersing himself in the social and performance scene. He trained with world-class instructors including Alex & Desiree, Marcus Nieves, and Ernesto & Denise of Iroko, refining his technique, timing, and versatility across styles. He later joined the internationally recognized Yamuleé company, further strengthening his stage presence, precision, and partner work at a high-performance level.
Diego believes a dancer should never stop learning and continues to refine his craft through ongoing training in New York at Empire Mambo and with other professional artists in the scene, staying closely connected to the NYC dance community.
Now based in the Bay Area, Diego is a bachata instructor at Motion Arts Center in San Mateo, where he continues to share his passion for social dance through structured, musical, and connection-focused training.
Alongside his work at Motion Arts Center, Diego is the founder of Sin Censura, a project dedicated to developing dancers through strong fundamentals, performance training, and authentic self-expression.
