About Bersy Cortez

Bersy Cortez is a Venezuelan salsa dancer, choreographer and instructor based in Malaga, Spain. Originally from Caracas, she is known for Bersy Style and African Mambo, two projects that bring together mambo, Afro movement, body movement and a strong sense of musicality.

Bersy began studying salsa and dance in Caracas at age ten. By fourteen she was already teaching and choreographing, and by sixteen she had joined Imagen Latina, one of Venezuela’s important salsa groups, which gave her early professional experience on international stages.

After moving to Spain at age twenty, Bersy built a career as a solo artist, team director and international festival instructor. She has danced for salsa artists including Oscar D’Leon, El Gran Combo, Cheo Feliciano, Adalberto Santiago and Sonora Poncena, and has taught at major events in Europe and the Americas.

Her African Mambo work blends Afro movement and mambo with enough theory and structure that dancers can use it socially, not only as choreography. That balance of power, cultural rhythm and clear teaching has made Bersy one of the most recognizable female mambo and AfroMambo artists on the congress circuit.
