Scarlett Medrano is a salsa and bachata instructor based in New York City. She co-directs Somos Candela NYC with Charlie Garcia and leads GROOVEMENT FX, developing movement training that combines salsa On2 with hip-hop and LiteFeet.
Born in Harlem and raised partly in the Dominican Republic, Scarlett began ballet at three and salsa at thirteen with Nelson Flores. She later trained at Santo Rico with Tomas Guerrero and joined Yamulee in 2017 under Osmar Perrones, performing internationally with the company.
Scarlett developed Body GROOVEMENT through her teaching, first at Yamulee and later in her own programs. Her classes emphasize body movement and individual expression, and her current offerings also include a traditional bachata intensive.
Her early training also included flamenco, hip-hop and street jazz. Those experiences help explain the range of movement in her programs, which bring her salsa company background together with the street dance forms she uses in Body GROOVEMENT.
