International Salsa Museum Hopes to Open in The Bronx

A group of organizers for the International Salsa Museum (ISM) held a press conference yesterday outside of the Kingsbridge Armory where they hope to open a museum dedicated to salsa music and dance.

The ISM is a non-profit organization that seeks to “educate, increase the public’s awareness, and preserve Salsa music’s rich cultural history” through the creation of a state of the art museum in the Bronx.

The event was led by International Salsa Museum co-founders Willy Rodriguez and Manny Tavarez as well as board member Eddie Torres Jr. (one of the choreographers for the recent In The Heights movie) who shared their vision for the planned museum.

There were also performances at the press conference by local salsa musicians and dancers.

Fundraising for the museum is well underway, and if you are interested you can contibute to the project on the ISM website.
